Prevention

Why skin checks matter in Sheridan County

The World Health Organization notes that UV levels rise by roughly 10% for every 1,000 meters of altitude. Sheridan sits at about 3,700 feet with high, clear skies, long summer days and a lot of outdoor work and recreation. Skin cancer is the most common cancer in the United States, and most cases are highly treatable when they are caught early.

We recommend a yearly full-body skin exam for most adults, and more often if you have a history of skin cancer, many moles, fair skin, or a family history of melanoma. Between visits, check your skin monthly using the ABCDEs of melanoma: Asymmetry, irregular Borders, uneven Color, Diameter larger than a pencil eraser, and any Evolving spot. If something is new, changing, bleeding or not healing, call our Sheridan office.

What to expect at your Sheridan appointment

  1. Easy scheduling. Call (406) 702-1323 or book online. Same-day appointments may be available.
  2. A real conversation. We review your history, medications and concerns before the exam.
  3. A thorough exam. For skin checks, we examine you head to toe, including hard-to-see areas.
  4. Treatment on the spot when possible. Biopsies, cryotherapy and many minor procedures can often be done the same day.
  5. A clear plan. You leave knowing your diagnosis, options and next steps, with follow-up in person or by teledermatology.
