Curettage and desiccation (C&E) is used for the removal of small benign skin growths and lesions by scraping or burning. The surgeon applies the tip of an electrosurgical instrument to the targeted lesion or growth. This transmits a current that destroys the tissue upon contact. This therapy is effective for warts, granulomas, and keratoses. Curettage and desiccation, in conjunction with simple excision, can be used to treat superficial nonmelanoma skin malignancies. Unlike the other types of procedures, the cosmetic outcomes are not as good.
